Job Description

REI is seeking a seasoned, progressive, Visual Merchandising professional with a proven track record of driving visual strategy. This experienced leader will craft and shape the function of visual and provide coaching and professional development for their team of direct reports. The ideal candidate will have a significant functional expertise in visual merchandising, experience managing multiple direct reports, and be strategic in approach with the ability to translate ideas into plans and actionable steps. The Visual Merchandising Manager position contributes to REI’s success by leading a team of six in the creation, development and planning of visual merchandising design concepts, solutions and implementation plans for products and programs for retail stores. This role is responsible to develop clear and consistent merchandise presentation direction, supporting signage, and leading the effort to bring visual merchandising strategies, tactics, processes, and practices forward that will meet REI’s corporate brand and sales goals. Models and acts in accordance with REI’s guiding principles. Qualifications • 5+ years experience in visual merchandising program management at the corporate level in a multi-store environment required. • 5+ years experience leading, supervising, training, and building successful visual merchandising teams at the corporate level required. • Proven experience building and maintaining strong, collaborative, cross divisional business relationships. • Proven experience in managing process improvement and team effectiveness. • Proven ability to plan and manage work effectively through all phases of the planning and analysis process. • Proven senior level planning and organizational skills with excellent attention to detail and follow through required. • Successful work performance demonstrating an ability to communicate effectively, work well with others, use productive work methods, exercise sound judgment and decision making skills ,provide a positive example of problem-solving and teamwork approach to staff, and display initiative and innovation on the job. • Demonstrated strategic thinking skills, with broad understanding of retail concepts required. • Proven track record developing sales-driving visual merchandising direction. • Proven track record leading and managing in-store marketing and signage. • Ability to translate strategic direction into actionable programs. • Demonstrated ability to successfully champion initiatives cross-divisionally. • Proven abilities in managing ROI and budgets required. • College degree or equivalent experience in related field preferred. Leadership Expectations: • Identifies and communicates key responsibilities and practices to ensure the organization promotes a successful attitude, confidence in leadership, and teamwork to achieve business results. • Supports the implementation of company programs, procedures, methods and practices to promote REI’s key messages. • Challenges and inspires employees to achieve business results. • Ensures employees adhere to legal and operational compliance requirements. • Oversees training and development of employees, directly and indirectly managed and makes effective staffing decisions. • Conducts and ensures the completion of performance reviews. • Provides coaching, direction and leadership support to employees in order to achieve department, company and customer results. • Promotes and fosters open communication and collaborative problem solving • Establishes and maintains visibility within the department. • Monitors operational statistics, reports trends, variances and issues, and takes appropriate action. • Sets visual standards, brand execution, best practices and ensures the broad REI organization is informed and current. Includes store and market visits. • Responsible for hiring and building an excellent, sales-driven corporate visual merchandising team • Manages the measurement of and recommends adjustment to visual programs and initiatives.
